This plant is native to the Region 2 of the Atacama desert, Antofagasta, Chile. North of Taltal, in coastal mountains around San Ramon Valley. This may be the most recognizable Copiapoa of the genus. Densely covered in flexible white spines, this is certainly a wonderful species. Found in a comparatively small population of only 60 km2 in the hills north of the city of Taltal in Chile. These plants may stay solitary for quite some time, but with age they will produce offsets and form a clump. This plant grows best in full sun to partial shade. Water the plant in the summer and less frequently in the winter (keep very dry). The flower color is yellow.
