This plant is endemic to northwestern Argentina, in the provinces of Catamarca, Córdoba, La Rioja, Mendoza, Salta, Santiago del Estero, San Juan, San Luis and Tucumán. This is a single stem growing species (does not offset) with strong stout spines and a greyish to olive green body color that can show some purple tones in strong sun. Grow this plant in full sun to partial shade but protect from full sun during the hot mid-day sun during summer. The plant is a relatively slow grower. Water the plant regularly during spring/summer but keep it predominately dry during the winter months. The flowers are white/pink.
