This plant is native to South America, Ayacucho in Peru south into central Chile. There are many forms of C. sphaerica, some with large oval shaped segments to about 3”-4”, others with more rounded segments to 1.5"-2" with straight spines and creamy tufts of glochids. The segment color is a muted olive green with a spotted waxy white coating. The segments are fragile and can detach easily. The plant grows best in full to part sun. Water the plant in the summer but let it dry out during the winter. The flower is a golden yellow color.
