This plants habitat is Cape Province, South Africa. Grows a large, mostly round (dome shaped) caudex. As a juvenile the caudex is smooth, but then develops deep fissures that give it great character, similar to a tortoise shell. It grows best in light shade but keep the caudex in full shade. Like all caudex plants, the caudex will grow faster if left under the soil for the first few years of growth. Give the plant moderate to regular water during the growing period and little while it is dormant. The flower is small and has a greenish-yellow color.
NOTE: Plants are currently just emerging from dormancy. Some are just starting to leaf out, most have no leaves yet.
