This plant is native to Baja California, Sonora and south into Oaxaca, Mexico. This plant grows a large, irregular shaped caudex with large dark green leaves that have lovely pink veins. This is a tree and can get quite large at maturity, although still commonly grown bonsai style and very worthy of pot culture. Known as the Rock Fig, for it grows naturally in rocky areas and the roots grow around and envelope the rocks like a glove. This plant grows best in full sun to light shade. This plant needs moderate water in the summer and very little during the winter. The flowers area greenish color, however it is known to flower infrequently.
