This plant is native to Oaxaca and Pueblo, Mexico. This plant has short pectinate spines as a juvenile and later develops long black central spines. Starts out globose and then cylindrical to club-shaped. Usually solitary, but may offset with age to form irregular clumps. This plant grows best in full to part sun. Water the plant during its growing season, but keep dry during dormancy. The flower is bright pink.
