This plant is native to Mexico, from Jalisco to Oaxaca. This plant forms a lovely caudex that is great for show. The caudex resembles the texture of Dioscorea. This plant is part of the Asclepiadaceae family, (a cadiciform Stapeliad) producing small flowers that attract pollinating flys with a nasty smell. Keep in sun to partial shade to keep the plant compact. The flowers are a dark brown/purple. Sometimes seen under the nomen nudum (a name not validly published) of Gonolobus cyclophyllus.
