Melocactus erythracanthus / Melocactus ernestii
This plant originates in Northeastern Brazil; Bahia, Minas Gerais. These plants can be highly variable in size, color and spines depending on the habitat location they grow in. This plant grows best in partial sun to light shade. This plant has incredible long dark copper colored spines. This plant needs regular water during the summer. Keep dry and above freezing/frost in the winter. Best kept at (50-60F). The plant will eventually start to grow a cephalium, this is very dense wooly tuft that grows in a cylindrical shape. This is where the flowers and fruit form. The flower color is pink.
