This plant is endemic to the northern Ancash region, Peru. This plant has only been recently described in 2006. Its natural habitat is threatened by illegal collection by “so-called” cactus collectors. Being such a small plant it is easily smuggled. Please do not ever remove a plant from its natural habitat, or buy a plant from vendors selling field collected plants. Preserve the plant in cultivation by growing it from seed!! Grow in full sun to partial shade. The stem can take on a purple tone with more sun. The flowers are white and they bloom at night.
